I conducted an analysis of the traffic distribution of Reddit's 33W data and identified over 4,000 high-traffic Subreddits.
This article analyzes the traffic distribution of 33W Subreddits on Reddit and identifies over 4,000 high-traffic Subreddits.
Sharpening the axe takes time, but it doesn't hinder the chopping of wood. When we post on Reddit, our ultimate goal is to gain more exposure for our posts, to have them seen by more people, and to receive more upvotes. Therefore, finding a high-traffic subreddit is crucial. Spending a bit more time researching and posting on high-traffic subreddits often yields twice the result with half the effort.
Question: What qualifies as a high-traffic subreddit?
This question pertains to the traffic distribution within the Reddit community. Reddit has an official 'Top Communities' ranking that lists the traffic ranking of various subreddits. The link is here: Top Communities on Reddit
This is the official ranking and is very authoritative. We can see that:
- The first page contains 250 subreddits, with the top-ranked subreddit being
r/funny
, which has 63M (63 million) users. - The last one on the first page is
r/suggestmeabook
, with 3M (3 million) users.
Here are some basic conclusions and speculations:
- Reddit's traffic is enormous, with any given subreddit having millions, or even tens of millions of users. Finding the right subreddit significantly increases the chances of exposure.
- Traffic is unevenly distributed among subreddits, with a very pronounced top-heavy effect.
- There's no need to deliberately pursue subreddits with extremely high traffic. Most subreddits should have traffic between 100,000 and 1,000,000. For a precisely targeted community size, it's already large enough.
To verify my speculation about the size of subreddit communities, I crawled this official data and did some data analysis, as shown in the figure:
This chart is very clear:
- Subreddits with less than 100,000 users are the most numerous, with 290,000, accounting for 96%. I believe we can directly ignore this part of the subreddits and not waste time.
- There are more than 3,700 subreddits with traffic between 100,000 and 1,000,000. This number is already very large and more than enough for us to work with.
- There are more than 700 subreddits with traffic over 1,000,000. This number is also very large, and there's a lot of potential.
Conclusions:
- Focus on subreddits with more than 100,000 users, totaling more than 4,000, which is more than enough for us to choose from, validate needs, and promote.
- The Reddit official Top Communities ranking makes data filtering somewhat inconvenient. After I organize this, I will create a table to facilitate everyone's selection. Those who need it can follow me on Jike first and then message me privately, and I will send it to you all.
